FRANKFORT, KY – Kentucky Representative James Comer (R) announced Sunday night he will not run for governor against fellow Republican and incumbent Governor Matt Bevin.
In a statement released on Twitter, Rep. Comer says he’s been silent because his father had a “massive stroke” this past Thursday and he has been in the hospital for several days.
He goes on to say he will remain in Congress representing Kentucky’s 1st district, but he then slams Governor Bevin. Comer wrote “Kentucky deserves better than a Governor who belittles anyone who disagrees with him.” He claims that Gov. Bevin has not visited many of the rural communities in Kentucky, is not accessible, and travels outside of Kentucky more often than in his own state.
